The Islamic 2020 calendar is also called the Hijri calendar in Islam. It is based on the evolution of the moon and consists of 12 months in a year of 354 or 355 days. It is used to determine the dates of each month and all Islamic holidays and traditions. 

In practice, this means a sighting of the first curve of the new moon must be correctly recorded and verified before dates are published.

Those countries where Islam is the dominant religion so the Government calendar based on astronomical forecasts are sometimes used to plan further- or at least forecast the required dates without waiting for the moon sightings every month.

The Islamic calendar was established in 622 AD when Muhammad and his companions moved from Mecca to Medina – after been informed of an assassination plot – and established the first Muslim community (Ummah), an event celebrated as the Hijra.

Hijri Calendar 1441

All dates are subject to approval following an official sighting of the first moon of the new moon. And as already discussed, there can also be local changes on a day, but you should remember that dates are obedient to an official sighting of the first curve of the new moon and can also modify by a day or by the different locations.

Islamic Calendar 2020 Saudi Arabia

Laylat al Miraj

Laylat al-Miraj indicates the night-time tour of the wizard Muhammad from Mecca to what the Qur’an defines as the ‘farthest mosque in Jerusalem.’

Masjid Al Aqsa is regarded as the location of the ‘farthest mosque’ – this traditionally represents the large sanctioned site that is sometimes called Haram Al-Sharif.

Urdu Calendar 2020

Lailat al Miraj is the seventh month in the Islamic calendar which observed on the 27th day of Rajab.

Shab e Barat

Shab e Barat is also called Bara’a Night or Mid-Sha’ban, this is a festival observed on the night between the 14th or 15th day of the month of Sha’ban.

Ramadan

Ramadan starts in the ninth month in the Islamic calendar. During this month, Muslims start fast from early morning till sunset.

Fasting means no food or drink and also abstaining from smoking and ‘sinful behavior’ such as swearing, lying and gossiping.

When this month drops during the time of longer days and sunnier weather, the fasting can be quite a challenge. 

Eid al-Adha

This is the second Eid celebration in Islam. This is the festival of the Sacrifice.

Muslim Calendar 2020

The holiday starts from three to 16 days, depending on the country.

Muslims consider the event by sacrificing a lamb, goat, cow or other animal and sharing the meat with friends and neighbors, and with the weak and penniless.

Hajj

This is the yearly trip to Mecca, a journey that is needed at least once in a Muslim worshipper’s lifetime if they are financially and physically able to do it.

Up to three million Muslims complete the pilgrimage every year.

Milad/Mawlid

Mawlid (or Milad) un-Nabi means ‘birth of the prophet’ and commits to the observance of the birthday of Muhammad. This is the third month in the Islamic calendar.
